They are specifically designed for use in refrigeration systems using screw type compressors combined with very low evaporator temperatures. They may also be specified for certain systems using reciprocating compressors with high compression ratios and discharge temperatures. The very low pour points enable the Icematic 229 range to be used in systems where evaporator temperatures are extremely low. However because of their low miscibility with R22 the Icematic 229 range oils are not suitable for use in refrigeration systems using flooded evaporators, unless efficient oil separators or some other method of oil recovery is provided.
